I need to get you up to date fairly quickly as I wish this to be ongoing as we work through the project which started in September and I have started this blog December.
Over two months have passed since we started this project and in this two months the gardens have progressed hugely.
We are loveing having the families come in when they can, there is no pressure from us, we will look after them if they dont show for a few days at a time, after that it is up to the Salvation Army to decide what happens.
As the families come in each visit we show them what to do e.g. take the laterals out of the tomatoes and spray with copper to prevent fungals diseases getting in. Pick the herbs regularly as they will go to seed very quickly in Aucklands humidity. Feed everything regularly, (we have set up comfrey tea in a big bucket and a worm farm near the gardens for worm tea, and castings (worm poo),).
We are also trying to teach by letting some plants just go for it to see what happens in a confined area with other plants, did I give you the measurements of the raised gardens they are 1800x900x400.
